Votes counting commences in Kogi supplementary governorship election

Votes counting has commenced in many of the 91 polling units where the supplementary governorship election was held in Kogi on Saturday.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that counting started early in some polling units due to early completion of voting largely because of poor turnout of voters.

It was gathered that the exercise started early in Okene, Adavi and Okehi local governments in the Kogi central senatorial district.

The state Resident Electoral Commissioner, Mr Halilu Pai, told NAN that results would be moved to the state office of INEC as soon as collation was concluded at the local government level.

He also said that he was not aware of any polling unit where the election did not take place, saying that reports from the various polling units would give a clearer picture of what transpired.

Pai described the election as peaceful and orderly and thanked the electorate for their conduct. However,

Again, Thugs Disrupted Voting at Eti Aja 2, Dekina LGA

Again, Eti Aja 2 is in the news again for the wrong reasons as thugs disrupted the voting process. Eti Aja is in Anyigba, the commercial city of Igalaland.

Trouble started when thugs stormed some of the polling units in the area, shooting sporadically into air shortly after accreditation.
However, normalcy was returned to the polling units by security agents.

But as soon as voting started, the thugs stormed the place again and chased the voters on queue away, disrupting the entire voting arena. Electoral officers and prospective voters were seen scampering to safety.
