SPORTS: Check Out How Much Buhari Will Be Rewarding 1985 U-17 Team

President Muhammadu Buhari will reward each of the players who won the inaugural FIFA U17 World Cup 31 years ago with a cash gift of a two million Naira, sources at the presidency told AfricanFootball.

Buhari was the then military head of state when Nigeria led by Nduka Ugbade made history by becoming the winners of the first U16 World championship in China in 1985.

Buhari then promised the players scholarships, shares in major companies, among other things. Several of these promises, however, were never fulfilled.

Muhammadu Buhari, now a democratically elected president, has agreed to make up for these unfilled promises when he receives the team again at the Aso Rock Villa on Thursday, January 21st. To be honoured also are: the Eaglets who won a fifth U17 World Cup in November 2015 in Chile, as well as the country’s Olympic team.
